Over 54% of India's population is under 25 years old. IITP addresses the skills shortcoming by combining university and industry to improve the skills of unemployed youth and make them employable.
Students registered under the programme — called Trainees — gain on-the-job training, recruitment-camp access, skilled-manpower upgradation and an IITP Skill Certificate on completion.
Trainees must be at least 18 years of age as on the date of registration.
10th pass onwards, including 12th and ITI students and above, depending on the course.

Training program shall be for a period of 12 to 24 months.
A contract is signed between the IITP agent and trainee, governing all terms — not an offer or guarantee of employment.
